Netgear Nighthawk MR5200 5G WiFi 6 Review

The new Netgear Nighthawk MR5200 5G WiFi 6 Review router is Netgear’s most expensive Wi-Fi router ever. No, this is not an exciting high-end gaming router or an absurdly complex and surprisingly simple enterprise router. Instead, it’s a puck, a small portable router, and a mobile hotspot. The Nighthawk MR5200 or M5, depending on the type of device, is a device that guarantees wireless freedom, packed with WiFi 6 and powerful 5G.

Netgear has recently announced the new Nighthawk M5 Mobile Hotspot, a feature-packed hotspot that will be available from providers as well as in a non-locked version. It can also support all versions of 5G, in addition to millimeter-wave and sub-6 networks, it supports Wi-Fi 6 for any device connected to it. It will be available in May this year and will cost $699.99.

The MR5200 has the same shape and dimensions as its predecessor, the Nighthawk M1 aka MR1100. It’s a square device with rounded corners, some shiny plastic on the top, a soft rubber sheet on the ridged sides, removable on the bottom. A soft rubber plate covers the 5.04 Ah battery, identification details, and a SIM card slot.

The small 2.5-inch color touchscreen provides excellent and easy interaction with the MR5200, which has three buttons (Power, Home, and Back) to make navigating through options as easy as possible.

On one side of the M5 are two flaps that allow users to easily connect an optional external antenna, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a Type-C port that offers USB 3.2 Gen 2 speed. The second side can be used for both data and loading. In addition, Netgear included a rather large charger.

Another interesting new feature in the Nighthawk M5 is the incredible support for Wi-Fi 6, the next evolution of the Wi-Fi standard, technically called 802.11ax. Wi-Fi 6 access points and routers are still backward compatible with Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 users. The Nighthawk M5 supports the simultaneous use of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum with up to 32 client devices connected simultaneously. With this increased capacity, you get high speeds for high-end video streaming on any device, whether it’s a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

The M5 uses a USB-C port for charging, as well as a removable battery. Netgear claims that the mobile router has a long battery life and works even when the battery is removed, as long as it is plugged into the wall outlet. You can also plug it into an outlet at home or in the office to keep it working 24/7, even with the battery removed.
